How to Notice and Release Stress During these Trying Times

In little more than a decade, we have become high-tech beings, but evolution doesn’t happen that fast. Therefore, most of us get thrown off-balance, compromised by a virtual lifestyle that leaves the body behind. We move less and stare at screens more, and our health, creativity, and a lot more suffers.

The Solution: Make Mind-Body Balance a New Daily Habit

What I suggest is to add more times away from the desk so you can unplug, reboot, and regenerate your body/mind and creates, less stress and a true balance of the brain and body.

The Rebooting Technique™

Below are 7 steps to help de-stress on demand. Below that, is a simple assessment quiz to help you look at what changes you can make to achieve adding more whole-body intelligence into your life.

Step One: COMMIT

Commit 100% to taking the next 5 minutes to focus your attention on your brain and body.

Step Two: BREATHE

Take three slow deep full breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Relax and fill your belly on each inhalation, then release the breath and belly, as you exhale.

Step Three: SCAN

Notice what is happening in your body.  Are you squinting or straining in any way?  Are your shoulders and neck crunched? Is your jaw relaxed? Observe for 60 seconds feeling any sensations, noticing your posture and discovering any tension anywhere in your body.

Step Four: DECLARE

State to yourself what you notice. For instance, ” I am noticing that my breath is shallow, and my fists are closed.” Or, “I am noticing how relaxed my belly feels.”

Step Five: ACT

Now, take an action that benefits you right now. For instance, if you notice that your shoulders are raised, relax them and let them drop. If you are hunched over your computer, sit back and lift your head up.

Step Six: VISUALIZE 

Breathe comfortably, in and out like a calm ocean. See a simple wave form as you breathe in and out.

Step SevenCENTER

Sit comfortably with your legs uncrossed, hands, arms and shoulders at ease, belly relaxed and eyes open.  Take one more conscious breath in and out, and focus on relaxing, from the top of your head down to your toes.
