Panchakarma is your best preventative medicine you can do- whether you do it at home or have someone else do it.
To prepare for panchakarma, do a cleanse. You want to make sure that you’re doing a nice clean out as you’re doing the panchakarma, too. Juicing is one of the best ways to do a home cleanse that’s good for everybody at springtime to help prevent those seasonal allergies. Juicing green vegetables, bitters, astringents, and sour vegetables helps to clean out your liver and kidneys, and helps balance everything.
When I juice at this time of year, I include a whole bunch of cilantro. I take an entire bunch of fresh, organic cilantro, and put it in my juicer. I put in a whole head of celery because I have a gene that makes it difficult for me to get rid of ammonia through my kidneys, and celery juice has a lot of arginine, which does that. Another juice I like to make uses a whole lime.
I’ll add a big chunk of ginger root, another smaller chunk of fresh turmeric root, and then other green vegetables, and even red. I like to have one red bell pepper in there because that’s a lot of vitamin C. I like to put in broccoli stems, so I’ll roast my broccoli florets the day before. I keep the stems, and I put them through my juicer. I love to put chard, a zucchini, a yellow squash, and one carrot. Carrots have a lot of sugar, so I don’t juice a lot of them. I just include one because it has vitamin A.
That makes a fantastic juice. No fruit except for limes and lemons because you don’t want to juice fruit. If you juice fruit, you’ll have a lot of sugar in your juice.
Now here’s an even a better way of detoxing, especially if you’re Kapha, and you have a lot of mucus and weight you want to lose. You can juice for three days, five days, ten days, 30 days, if you’re sick. It will help. I put collagen in my juice to give it some protein. I’ll also have a few ground flaxseeds for some fiber. You might want to say, “Well, how come you’re taking the fiber out of the vegetable in the first place?” Well, first thing in the morning, instead of coffee, do this juice and see how you feel. It gives you a big micronutrient jolt of energy. Your digestive system doesn’t have to work to break down the vegetables. It’s great, first thing in the morning. It’s a great cellular cleanse. It’s fantastic for your lymphatic system, and it’s a wonderful spring cleaning for this time of year.
Now, if you already have an immune system reaction to the season, then on my website we have an amazing supplement called Immuno-Mod. Through March, we are running a special on it because it’s great for preventing hay fever and turning the hay fever response off. You turn that histamine response off. Just follow the instructions on the label. Try Immuno-Mod out. I would love to hear what you think of it.
It works great if you have an autoimmune issue too. It’s part of my autoimmune reversal kit, because it works incredibly to balance your immune system. You don’t want immune modulators the way the Western pharmaceutical industry designs them. You want to allow your body to have the immune response it’s supposed to have towards viruses and bacteria, but not to attack your own body, and that’s what these wonderful micronutrients will do for you in the Immuno-Mod.
That’s how to get through spring without a bunch of hay fever and pollen reactions and how to “spring clean” your body. That’s a one-size-fits-all. If you want to know how to individualize a cleanse and go a little deeper, then you can come and see me, or you can Skype with me. We can do a one-on-one consult, and I can tell you what your dosha balance is and what your imbalance is. I can even do this for you when you don’t live right here in the Seattle area. You can work with one of my coaches or me. You can also take the self-assessment quiz.
